Children’s Watercolor Workshop and Plein Air at Verdana

23 – 25 April 2015

IWS Philippines believes that in order to effect a real change, the best approach is to instill art
appreciation in the very young. We were given an opportunity to do this when we were approached by the Home Owner’s Association of Verdana Subdivision inquiring if we are open to conducting a watercolor workshop for their children. They were hoping this project would interest the children in the arts, teach them to learn a new skill as well as encourage interaction between the young. A three day workshop was planned. The first two days were used to teach the children the basics of watercolor which includes orienting them on how to use the paint sets, basic watercolor skills and safe handling of
the materials, with artists Jinky Rayo and Karen Sioson as instructors. On the third day, more IWS Philippine artists and artists from the Philippine Plein Air Painter’s Association (PPAPA) arrived to help complete the workshop.  Each child attending the workshop had a chance to observe and work alongside an adult artist as they painted in plein air. A feast awaited the attendees and parents had a chance to meet the group. A simple ceremony was held where the children received certificates for completing the workshop. The rest of the afternoon was given over to the artists for painting on location.
