6th Tam-Awan International Arts Festival, Baguio City

6 – 10 May 2015

IWS Philippines had a chance to take part in the prestigious Tam-Awan International Festival held yearly in Baguio City, the summer capital of the Philippines. Chanum Foundation, in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts presented this year’s theme: “A Global Cordillera: Heroes, Legends and Treasures” which focused not only on presenting the cultural richness of the region, but also of cultures all over the world. Attended by international delegations, foreign dignitaries and local cultural leaders, the aim was to come up with a master plan to help bring awareness to the richness of culture, arts and heritage of indigenous people.
To help in the effort,
artists from different fields (visual arts, music, poetry, performing arts, etc) were invited. We were told this is the first time a watercolor group has been accepted to be part of the festival. IWS Philippines official co representatives Erwin Mallari and Lito Brion Ballaran together with artists Teodoro Santos, Deg Francisco and Danny Doce made up the five man IWS Philippines Delegation. While there, our representatives held a two day watercolor workshop for attendees. They had a chance to interest the youth in exploring watercolor and gamely demonstrated portrait and still life painting for the audience. A tour of the Tam-Awan Village and a trip to the Ben Cab Museum were part of the event itinerary.
